Praise for “slow living”
In touch with nature, immersed in a slow pace. The search for a new way of living also shapes everyday spaces and experiences.
It is a new way of living, but also of designing. It is a change of perspective towards time and space, which seem to become accessible, close and, above all, authentic. It is a new trend that is spreading across the length and breadth of the world, summed up in the concept of “slow living”, a balance between the chaos of everyday life and the rhythm of nature, in search of wellbeing and a quality lifestyle.
There are obvious allusions to traditional Eastern culture, but it has become a widespread phenomenon in recent times, as the post-pandemic period has brought a renewed emphasis on the value of relationships and experiences, and even more so on well-being, both professional and personal. Also thanks to social media. A good example is the Instagram page and personal story of the Apulian designer Gianvito Fanelli (@Vita_Lenta to be precise), which has become a cultural phenomenon: after a decade in the city of Milan, he left everything behind to live in Apulia and capture moments of everyday life, simplicity and humanity. This new way of living also has surprising implications for the home. Green enters the home in a positive way, to create a more synergistic relationship with nature, bringing all the benefits of biophilia, natural materials are preferred, as well as delicate and soothing shades.
“Comfort” is the key word in interior design, even “craftsmanship”. The exaltation of slow rhythms brings us closer to a world of making and creating that has its deepest meaning in manual skills. Products made “from scratch”, the result of traditional and manufacturing know-how, are the new home desiderata, unique because they are unrepeatable and even beautiful because they are imperfect, as long as they are authentic. This trend also corresponds to an increasingly “green” and “off-grid” design, both in the home and in the hospitality sector: people are looking for places where they can live an experience immersed in nature, away from technology, in order to regenerate and find a new sense of themselves.
